I do a lot of traveling on the internet and see a lot of amazing people creating a lot of amazing things. I figured why not share some of that amazement with you and give the creators the kudos they deserve.
For this first post, I’m going to grab a few things that have amazed me so much that they’ve stayed front-of-mind for a long time.
Ben The Bodyguard
Originally, this was a teaser website to promote an upcoming iPhone app. The site was built using HTML5, which is a newer version of the code that drives websites and allows the web to function more like native apps. The best way to understand the difference is to open the following site on your iPhone or iPad, and scroll.
It blew up all over the internet for weeks when it was first announced and required months of custom development, solving unique problems to get the code right. Kudos to the folks at Nerd Communications, this continues to stay with me and be inspiring:
Note: the main homepage has been changed to be more of an app summary landing page, so be sure to go to the link above to experience the scrolling site.
Synth 76
This was just launched last week, and the detail still blows me away every time I look at it. The genius behind this, @imjonas is a one-man wrecking crew, doing everything from concept and design to iOS development.
The site for this iPad app also uses some of the same scrolling technology as the Ben the Bodyguard site, so be sure to scroll all the way through and experience the dials and switches move:
April/Zero
Now this is how you create a website in 2011. I mean, we carry computers in our pockets and data floats through the air like magic. I want to see some motion!
The code on this is, again, crazy custom, and took the developer awhile to get it functioning just right. Krazy Kudos to @aprilzero for this amazing piece of web technology.
Note: be sure to open this site on your iPhone and see the little extra “pinch” feature.
