God’s Leaky Water Faucet

I had this thought as I was about to enter REM sleep last night.

The universe’s expansion post-Big Bang was somewhat held in check by gravity up until about 5 billion years ago, when the distances became so vast that gravity stopped acting on the other objects (it’s the weakest force in our universe).

So, it appears that our universe will expand indefinitely until objects get so far apart that there appears to be nothingness.

But, what if this is the “heartbeat” of the universe? What if, every X billion years, there’s another big bang at the center of the universe, kicking off more elements into the vastness of space?

What if it’s like dropping a pebble into a calm pond? After the first massive disruption, there are waves moving away from the center until they eventually die out.

Like God’s leaky water faucet, that just drips, drips, drips, drips…
