Have you noticed how Apple doesn’t use this gesture, for moving forwards or backwards in an app?

It’s because it conflicts with the vertical scrolling gesture in almost every case. It’s my biggest problem with my most used app, Reeder. It just doesn’t work consistently. The phone thinks, “Do I scroll up or navigate sideways?” And so it, of course, does the opposite of what you want.
